These things save so much space.

If you’ve spent the early days of the pandemic creating a makeshift home office, you’re not alone. Now that we’re a few years out, though, it's time to level up with a floating desk. Here's the thing about these types of workstations: Even if they’re on the wider side, they don't take up any floor space, which is key in a small area. All you really need is some real estate on the wall, and you’re good to go.

We chatted with lead designer Toussaint Derby at Havenly for some expertise on floating desks, and she did not disappoint. "Visually, they keep the space from feeling too heavy or cluttered," Derby notes. "A floating desk is great as it can also be styled as an entry console." In an office, though, the chair is as important as the desk, so choose wisely. "If you want it to serve multiple purposes, like in the case of a small space, use a super cute ottoman or bench that styles the desk as an entry or console table when not in use," Derby explains. "A really stylish and comfortable dining chair or classic desk chair are also good options."

So if your home office is in serious need of a stylish upgrade, you can't go wrong with a floating desk. Ahead, you’ll find 12 that are interior designer-approved. From a live edge option that bolts to the wall on cast iron brackets to a $27 alternative that's tiny enough to fit in any space, there are a lot of solid options on offer.

With this Pottery Barn corner desk, you can decide how much you want or don't want to build. Opt for just the floating corner piece if your home office is a tight squeeze, or copy the photo and snag a few file cabinets to create a more legit office setting.

All you really need: a solid desktop, a small shelf, and some cubbies for stowing your work supplies away. This floating desk features all three. Plus, it comes in six colors. The best part about this find, though, is that it features a cable management storage system cut out on the spacious 63-inch wide top, so you'll never have to deal with clutter.

When we think of a traditional floating desk, something like this comes to mind. Not only is it made of solid pine, but it mounts to the wall on sturdy cast iron brackets, so just imagine how much you can do on this extremely durable desktop. It comes in six sizes, so depending on what you'll be using it for, you have plenty of options to consider.

We love a simple floating desk with drawers—especially when it's on sale for $200 off. Because it's only 39.4 inches wide, you can stash this desk in pretty much any room with a little wall space to spare. The top, which may look prone to scratches, rest assured that the top is lacquered for extra protection.

Fluting is having a moment right now, and even though these drawers look a bit slat-like, they're still in vogue. Personally, we're loving the pale wood, but if you'd prefer something a bit more dramatic, go for bright white or charcoal. The desktop may not be super wide, but you'll have plenty of space for your keyboard and mouse, courtesy of the pull-out tray.

For extra tiny spaces, opt for West Elm's Anton wall-mount floating desk, which spans only 27 inches wide and 16 inches deep. You may not have room to spread out your supplies, but you'll have plenty of space for your laptop. Anything else you'll need throughout the day—a few pens, notebook, or even a picture frame—you can place on the shelf.

How cute is this tiny (but sturdy) wall-mounted floating desk? It can support up to 35 pounds, so feel free to pile on as many office essentials as you can fit. Because it's so small, though, and may blend in with white-painted walls, it's easy to accidentally walk into—especially if it's in your bedroom. Luckily, there are rounded corners and smooth edges, so even in the case of a collision, there won't be any injuries.

When you're not using the drop-down leaf as a desktop, flip it up and use it as a blackboard. We love a multi-functional piece of furniture you can doodle on! This one is available in two sizes and two configurations complete with cubbies and shelves, so if you have any collections to display, you have plenty of space.

The only downside to this folding wall-mounted desk is that it's almost sold out, so if you are in need of a space-saving solution to up your WFH game, this is a good find. Did we mention it includes two USB ports for charing all of your most essential devices. It also comes with slats to prop up your phone or iPad, cupholders, and pods for pens and pencils.

The desktop may look extremely thick, but that's because it's made up of two spacious and deep drawers, which are mounted to the slatted FSC-certified wooden panel. There's also a built-in LED light for late nights working from home. As for styling it, we suggest going with a stool you can tuck under the desktop or a low-back office chair.

At just under 40 inches wide, this sleek wall-mounted floating desk is perfect for small spaces because it's replete with cleverly hidden storage, including two cubbies and a closed drawer. Here's the thing, though: It weighs 40 pounds, so you may need another set of hands to mount it to the wall, but it can bear up to 80 pounds, so feel free to store all of your work must-haves on the tabletop, drawer, and cubbies.

This modular wall-mounted desk would look beautiful in any space and, at 28 inches wide, it will certainly fit. If you need a bit more storage space, opt for the two-shelf option for an extra $160.

Yes, floating desks are designed to bear plenty of weight, so as long as it's installed and assembled correctly, they will be sturdy. If you want to be sure, you can always enlist a professional to help!

Floating shelves only sag (and eventually fall off the wall, which could be dangerous) if they're under more weight than they can bear. Our suggestion? Always go a few pounds less than the shelf can manage.

Just like plenty of the workforce, the House Beautiful shopping readers work from home every now and then, and when we do, we want space-saving floating shelves that don't skimp on style. We hunted around for the best on the market at unbeatable prices.
